chapter 5

I woke up in the church and thought "Where am I," when I looked at the floor and saw "Went to get supplies, be back soon." That's when I saw someone at the door and realized it was only Johnny. When he got in the church he started emptying the bag and listing off the items that he bought. I couldn't wait long enough so I started to dig in myself, I took out lots of things including peroxide. That's when I realized that Johnny was thinking of cutting my hair and bleaching it so I said no. But he convinced me that it was for our own good so I let him do it, he did it and I looked in a cracked mirror we had found and saw my hair. Then Johnny gave me the blade and I cut his hair the way he said to and then he washed his hair anyway. For the next four or five days we killed time reading gone with the wind and playing poker. On the fifth or sixth day Dally came and handed us a letter from Sodapop, then he took us to Dairy Queen and I had a Pepsi and we ate sandwich's and banana splits. Then Dally told us that we got ourselves a spy, he said it was Cherry Valance.

Oh my god!!!

I can't believe what Johnny has just done, I mean I was being drowned and all but I just can't believe Johnny has just killed someone.


Here's the story.......


I was coming home and I showed up late, when I came in the door Darry was yelling and screaming at me because I was late. I don't usually do this but i started yelling back at Darry and then he hit me. I ran out the door as fast as I could and ran down to the park where johnny was, I told him what had just happened and he understood why I was upset. I was at that moment when we recognized the blue mustang that was circling the park, it was the soc's!!!!!!! they were way out of their territory. We wanted to run but it was too late they were already out of the car and were on us. They insulted us badly by saying "You know what a greaser is? "White trash with long hair!!!" I was that which angered me and i said " You know what a soc is? "White trash with mustangs and madras!!!" Then I had nothing else to say so i spit at them. That was when Bob came and grabbed the back of my hair and pushed my face into the fountain. I then realized he was drowning me and there was nothing I could do to save myself. I remembered that Johnny was with me and he was probably getting beat. That's when I felt the soc's grip loosening and I jumped up trying to figure out what had just happened. I then realized that Bob was dead, I heard Johnny say to me "I killed him Pony, I killed that boy." "He was going to drown you so I killed him." I then realized that all that Johnny had was his switchblade in his back pocket. We then ran to Buck Merrill's place to see Dally and tell him about what happened and that we needed a gun and some money. He gave us those things and we went to Windrixville and slept in a church.
